July 4, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Microchip Technology has joined forces with Nippon Chemi-Con and NetVision to introduce the first ASA-ML camera development ecosystem tailored for the Japanese automotive market. The platform supports scalable, high-speed asymmetric data transfer and hardware-based link-layer security to meet emerging cybersecurity standards in vehicles.

The ecosystem builds on Microchip’s VS775S single-port ASA-ML serializer, originally acquired through its purchase of VSI. Nippon Chemi-Con’s CDTrans camera module and NetVision’s NV061 development board both incorporate the VS775S, reinforcing the supply chain’s commitment to ASA-ML standardization in Japan’s expanding ADAS sector.

“Our collaboration with industry pioneers helps Japanese OEMs reduce risk and accelerate ASA-ML adoption,” said Kevin So, vice president of Microchip’s communications business unit. “The ecosystem ensures compatibility and future scalability as demand for camera-based safety systems grows.”

Katsunori Nogami, CTO of Nippon Chemi-Con, emphasized the importance of open, standards-based connectivity. “With NetVision’s emulator, our VS775S-based module supports multi-vendor integration and long-term deployment within Japan’s evolving SDV architectures,” he said.

NetVision’s engineering head, Kenji Kudo, Ph.D., added that their ASA-ML serializer board and camera emulation tools will remove adoption barriers created by proprietary video protocols. “This solution supports scalable, interoperable architectures needed in Japan’s next-generation vehicle platforms.”

Dozens of ASA-ML members—including BMW, Ford, GM, Volvo, Bosch, Denso, and Microchip—are driving standardization across the automotive supply chain. The ecosystem reflects growing demand for flexible, high-bandwidth, and multi-supplier solutions in Level 2 and Level 2+ autonomous driving systems.
