January 19, 2026 /SemiMedia/ — Diodes Incorporated has introduced two USB Type-C Power Delivery controllers, the AP53781 and AP53782, targeting battery-powered portable devices that require higher power levels and flexible power flow.
The new devices support the USB PD3.1 extended power range standard, allowing up to 140 watts per port. They are designed to manage both charging and power output, enabling end products to act as either a power sink or a source depending on system needs.
Diodes said the controllers can automatically negotiate power roles with PD3.1-compliant chargers or connected devices. Both parts also support a dead-battery mode, allowing systems to draw power from an external source even when the internal battery cannot start the controller.
To improve system robustness, the configuration channel pins are rated to withstand up to 34 volts, helping protect against accidental shorts to the high-voltage VBUS line in higher-power designs.
The AP53781 is positioned for simpler implementations, using preloaded power profiles that can be selected through external resistors, eliminating the need for a separate microcontroller. The AP53782 adds an I2C interface, enabling closer interaction with a host MCU and more flexible power management in advanced systems.
The controllers are offered in compact W-QFN packages and are rated for operation across industrial temperature ranges. For more information, please visit AP53781 and AP53782.
