Vishay launches fast-acting thin film chip fuses for circuit protection

December 18, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Vishay Intertechnology has introduced two new series of thin film chip fuses designed to deliver fast and very fast acting protection for compact electronic and semiconductor-related applications.

Fast and very fast acting fuses address compact circuit protection needs

The S2F and S3F series are offered in 0402, 0603 and 1206 surface-mount packages, with rated currents ranging from 0.315 A to 7 A. Both series comply with UL 248-14 standards and feature low resistance and a body temperature rise of less than 75 degrees Celsius at full rated current, supporting reliable operation in space-constrained designs.

The key difference between the two series lies in their response time under overload conditions. At 200% rated current, the S2F series is designed to open in under one minute, making it suitable for applications that can tolerate brief overloads. The S3F series, by contrast, is designed to interrupt the circuit in less than five seconds, targeting sensitive circuits that require rapid protection.

Defined fusing behavior supports semiconductor and power applications

By combining defined fusing characteristics, a wide current range and multiple package options, the new devices are intended to give designers greater flexibility when implementing secondary circuit protection. Typical applications include industrial electronics, power management systems, communication equipment and other electronic platforms where precise overcurrent protection is critical.

Vishay said samples and production quantities of the S2F and S3F series are available now, with lead times of approximately 16 weeks.
