High-efficiency boost control for larger automotive LED displays

November 25, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Diodes Incorporated has introduced the AL3069Q, a high-efficiency 60V boost controller designed for automotive LED backlight applications. The device features four 80V high-precision current sink channels to support larger display panels, with comprehensive diagnostics to ensure system reliability. Typical applications include infotainment screens, instrument clusters, and heads-up displays.

Wide voltage range and precise LED current control

The AL3069Q operates over a wide input voltage range from 4.5V to 60V, covering automotive power rails such as 12V, 24V, and 48V, offering flexibility in system design. Its boost switching frequency can be adjusted from 100kHz to 1MHz, accommodating requirements for either high efficiency or compact PCB layouts.

Each of the four integrated current sink channels can be set via an external resistor, with typical current matching of ±0.5% between channels and devices. Each channel can deliver 250mA, with pulse currents up to 400mA, enabling longer LED strings for higher output. This makes the device suitable for LED panels up to 32 inches diagonally. PWM-to-analog dimming is supported, achieving a minimum duty cycle of 1/5000 at 100Hz, improving brightness control and minimizing color shifts.

Robust protection and compact package for automotive systems

Designed for automotive robustness, the AL3069Q includes multiple protection features: cycle-by-cycle current limit, soft-start, undervoltage lockout (UVLO), programmable overvoltage protection (OVP), overtemperature protection (OTP), LED open/short protection, Schottky diode protection, inductor short-circuit protection, and VOUT short-circuit protection. A dedicated FAULTB pin reports fault conditions.

The device is offered in TSSOP-16EP (DX) and U-QFN4040-16/SWP (UXB) packages, providing a compact and cost-effective solution. Pricing starts at $0.54 per 1,000 pieces. A standard version, AL3069, is also available for industrial and commercial applications.
