November 18, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Honda is preparing to restart vehicle production across its North American plants as Nexperia resumes shipments of general-purpose semiconductors. The earlier supply halt had tightened inventories and forced multiple Honda facilities in the United States, Canada and Mexico to suspend or reduce output.
Honda targets Nov. 24 production restart as chip supply improves
Honda’s Mexico plant has been idle since Oct. 28, while U.S. and Canadian factories cut output starting Oct. 27. Suppliers were informed that limitations would continue until Nov. 21, with plants expected to return to normal production from Nov. 24 depending on component availability.
Several Honda models rely on Nexperia’s general-purpose chips, making the restored supply flow critical for stabilizing production schedules.
Automotive supply chain receives initial batches of Nexperia components
Continental’s OMRON Automotive Electronics unit in Germany said it has received its first shipments of Nexperia-made chips from China. Volkswagen’s China executive also confirmed the industry has begun receiving components, noting that China’s Ministry of Commerce issued a short-term special permit shortly after an agreement was reached with the United States.
Analysts say the resumed shipments ease immediate pressures but note that long-term semiconductor stability remains a key concern as electronics content in vehicles continues to rise.
