October 27, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has introduced a new series of insulated, surface-mount inrush current limiting positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistors, designed for automotive and industrial applications. The PTCES series offers maximum energy handling up to 340 J and high voltage tolerance of 1200 VDC in a compact package, aiming to improve board-level efficiency and reduce overall costs.
Compared with competing devices, the PTCES thermistors deliver up to 260% higher energy handling, allowing engineers to reduce the number of components on a PCB while saving space and costs. Maximum voltage ratings are also 20% higher than comparable products, enabling broader application flexibility.
The thermistors provide current limitation and overload protection in AC/DC and DC/DC converters, DC-link circuits, energy dump and emergency discharge systems, on-board chargers, battery charging units, and motor drives. The self-protecting devices endure more than 100,000 inrush power cycles and are AEC-Q200 qualified for shock and vibration, eliminating the need for reinforced mounting adhesives.
Constructed from solder-connected barium titanate ceramic and encapsulated in a UL 94 V-0 compliant, self-extinguishing, washable plastic housing, the PTCES thermistors provide insulation up to 3 kVAC. The low-profile 9.6 mm, RoHS-compliant, halogen-free devices are compatible with automated pick-and-place assembly to reduce manufacturing costs.
Samples and production quantities of the PTCES series are available now, with lead times of approximately 10 weeks. For more information, please visit https://www.vishay.com/en/product/29242/.
