October 17, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and QuantumScape Corporation have entered into a joint development agreement to advance the mass production of ceramic separators used in solid-state batteries.

The two companies began exploring potential collaboration in February 2025, evaluating Murata’s strengths in ceramic material formulation, sheet forming, and firing technology for application in QuantumScape’s separator manufacturing. Following successful verification, Murata and QuantumScape are moving to the next phase, which focuses on scaling up production and defining a path to commercialization.

Norio Nakajima, President of Murata, said the agreement marks a significant step forward in their partnership. He emphasized that Murata’s expertise in ceramic engineering will support QuantumScape’s efforts to bring solid-state battery technology to high-volume manufacturing.

QuantumScape CEO Dr. Siva Sivaram added that cooperation with Murata, a global leader in ceramics, strengthens QuantumScape’s supply ecosystem and brings the company closer to commercializing its solid-state lithium-metal batteries for electric vehicles.

QuantumScape, based in San Jose, California, develops next-generation solid-state lithium-metal battery technology for the EV industry.
