Diodes launches automotive-grade buck converters for 48V point-of-load systems

August 26, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Diodes Incorporated has introduced four automotive-compliant asynchronous buck converters designed for 48V point-of-load (PoL) applications, expanding its portfolio of automotive power management solutions. The new devices, AP68255Q, AP68355Q, AP6A255Q and AP6A355Q, operate across the full automotive battery voltage range from 5.5V to 80V/100V, including load dump conditions.

The converters integrate 500mΩ power MOSFETs to deliver efficient DC-DC step-down conversion with up to 3.5A continuous output. Using a constant on-time (COT) control method, they maintain a nearly constant 300kHz switching frequency, enabling fast transient response, low output ripple, and simplified loop design with fewer external components.

A proprietary gate-driver arrangement reduces switch node ringing without compromising MOSFET switching speed, lowering radiated EMI noise. Built-in safeguards include overcurrent protection with frequency foldback and thermal shutdown at 160°C, with automatic restart when the device cools below 140°C. These features enhance system reliability under demanding automotive conditions.

The AP68255Q/355Q and AP6A255Q/355Q are offered in thermally enhanced SO-8EP packages with an operating range of -40°C to +125°C. Standard versions are also available for industrial and commercial markets.
