Vishay launches SOT-23 automotive-grade ESD diodes with enhanced thermal and surge capabilities

August 21, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Vishay has unveiled two new automotive-grade SOT-23 ESD protection diode series, offering significant improvements in thermal dissipation and surge-handling capability. The single-line VGSOTxx and dual-line VGSOTxxC series support 3.3 V to 36 V operation, delivering peak pulse power of up to 540 W and peak current of 44 A (8/20 µs), enabling more robust electronic designs.

Both series are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free and meet environmentally conscious “Vishay Green” standards. They also provide strong ESD protection under IEC 61000-4-2 and ISO 10605 (±30 kV air/contact discharge) and exceed AEC-Q101 human-body model class H3B (> 8 kV).

Target applications include automotive electronics and smart systems, energy monitoring, industrial automation, motor drives, computing peripherals, consumer appliances, telecom infrastructure, medical instrumentation, and military electronic warfare systems.

The VGSOTxx series can be used for unidirectional protection, while the VGSOTxxC devices—due to their dual, common-anode configuration—can operate bidirectionally or be paralleled for enhanced surge capability and capacitance.

These new devices are drop-in replacements for earlier Vishay GSOT models and rival SOT-23 diodes, available in AEC-Q101 qualified options. Samples and production units are now available with approximately 12-week lead times. For more information, please visit VGSOTxx and VGSOTxxC.
