TDK expands automotive filter line with higher voltage and capacitance options

June 6, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — TDK Corporation has broadened its YFF series of 3-terminal filters for automotive applications, now offering models rated up to 35 V and 4.7 μF. Mass production of the enhanced series began in June 2025, targeting improved suppression of voltage fluctuation and high-frequency noise in compact automotive power systems.

As vehicle electronics continue to miniaturize, designers face growing pressure to reduce system size while maintaining stability. While conventional designs rely heavily on multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), TDK’s 3-terminal filters—characterized by low equivalent series inductance (ESL)—offer an efficient alternative, reducing component count while enhancing noise suppression.

By optimizing materials and product structure, the new filters achieve a voltage range of 6.3 V to 35 V and a capacitance range of 0.47 μF to 4.7 μF. The 35 V variant delivers 40 dB insertion loss between 4 MHz and 2 GHz, supporting both input and output filtering in power supply systems. Meanwhile, the 4.7 μF model offers 30 dB insertion loss from 300 kHz to 3 GHz, outperforming conventional components in mitigating high-frequency noise.

Under defined usage conditions, these filters can halve the number of capacitors needed to manage voltage ripple, enabling simplified board design and reduced system cost.

Qualified to AEC-Q200 standards, the YFF series is designed for filtering, smoothing, and decoupling automotive power lines, delivering high reliability in harsh environments.
