June 3, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — TDK Corp, a leading electronic components manufacturer, is speeding up the commercial launch of its next-generation silicon anode batteries, driven by strong demand from smartphone makers and progress ahead of schedule.
Silicon anode batteries offer significantly higher energy density compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries. Although still a small part of TDK’s business, they represent a key advancement in smartphone battery technology. CEO Noboru Saito stated that the company originally planned to begin shipping its third-generation batteries this summer but is now close to starting shipments "very soon."
TDK also targets the introduction of its fourth-generation battery sometime next year, aiming to further enhance performance and efficiency. Last month, the company announced that over half of its capital expenditure for the next three years will be allocated to its energy segment, which includes battery development, underscoring its strategic focus on critical semiconductor downstream applications.
