May 20, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Renesas Electronics has introduced its latest addition to the RZ/A family of microprocessors, the RZ/A3M, designed to address the growing demand for efficient and cost-sensitive human-machine interface (HMI) systems. Integrating 128MB DDR3L SDRAM and 128KB on-chip SRAM into a compact System-in-Package (SiP), the RZ/A3M reduces PCB complexity and eliminates the need for high-speed external memory interfaces.
Powered by a 64-bit Arm Cortex-A55 core running at up to 1GHz, the RZ/A3M supports real-time operating systems and targets applications requiring responsive graphical interfaces. It drives large LCD panels with resolutions up to 1280x800, suitable for home appliances, industrial automation, healthcare equipment, and building control systems.
The device’s pin-optimized BGA package supports cost-saving two-layer PCB designs, making it ideal for developers looking to streamline production and lower bill-of-materials costs. Peripheral support includes MIPI-DSI, parallel RGB, QSPI for external flash, I2C, USB2.0, and other standard interfaces.
Renesas complements the hardware with a full-featured HMI development environment. This includes its Flexible Software Package (FSP), evaluation kits, development tools, and GUI software from ecosystem partners such as LVGL and Crank. These resources aim to speed up the design of high-quality, real-time graphical user interfaces.
As part of its broader HMI offering, Renesas continues to promote Winning Combinations—pre-validated system designs that integrate RZ/A3M with other Renesas components for faster time-to-market. The RZ/A3M is now available in volume production along with all supporting tools and documentation.
