July 16, 2024 /SemiMedia/ -- According to data released by the Ministry of Science and ICT of South Korea on July 15, exports in information and communications technology-related fields in the first half of the year were $108.85 billion, an increase of 28.2% over the first half of last year, second only to $122.46 billion in the first half of 2022.

South Korea's semiconductor exports rose 49.9% to $65.83 billion as demand grew due to the growth of the artificial intelligence market and the recovery of the information technology and communications equipment markets.

Among them, memory led the overall semiconductor export growth. Due to the increase in fixed transaction prices and the increase in exports of products such as high-bandwidth memory (HBM), memory exports increased by 88.7% compared with the first half of last year. In particular, the export value of SSDs increased by 57.7% to $4.06 billion.

In addition, South Korea's ICT-related exports in June reached $21.05 billion, the highest monthly level in history. Semiconductor exports in June were $13.44 billion, also the highest level in the same month. Among them, memory semiconductor exports reached US$8.83 billion, a surge of 85.2% from June last year.
