DRAM prices expected to rise in second half of the year, report says

July 2, 2024 /SemiMedia/ -- According to reports, in order to seize the AI chip market, Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron are now actively converting DRAM production capacity to HBM production, which has led to a reduction in DRAM supply. Due to the limited supply of DDR5 and the discontinuation of DDR4/DDR3, it has become a potential factor for price increases for other memory chip manufacturers.

The industry believes that DRAM prices are certain to rise in the second half of the year, while NAND prices are relatively depressed due to weak demand and the recovery of factory utilization rates, as inventory issues have resurfaced. Therefore, the industry is more optimistic about DRAM's performance in the second half of the year and believes that prices will continue to rise.

The industry expects that after entering the third quarter, demand for AI servers will continue to strengthen and the traditional peak season will also arrive. In addition, demand for consumer electronics will pick up from the end of July to August, and the industrial and automotive markets are also expected to gradually increase, thereby driving the growth of the memory chip market.
