According to reports, Microchip is considering investing $30 to expand production in Gresham, Oregon.

According to previous reports, Microchip has said that it plans to spend $5 billion to build a new 12-inch fab within a few years, but the site has not yet been determined.

A coalition of lawmakers wrote a letter to Oregon Governor Kate Brown urging the governor to take action by Nov. 1 to allocate $17.5 million from three state funds to support Oregon's position.

The expansion will have a huge impact on Gresham, Oregon and national chip production, the lawmakers wrote in the letter, hoping to see Oregon workers help solve global supply chain problems.

The report pointed out that Microchip may bring a lot of new investment and as many as 650 new jobs.
