IDC recently released a report on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global semiconductor market and made new predictions on the semiconductor market under the pandemic.

According to the report, the probability that the global semiconductor industry's revenue will shrink sharply in 2020 is close to 80%, instead of the 2% increase previously expected. However, IDC pointed out that there is still a 20% chance that a rapid and strong rebound will be achieved in 2020.

IDC said that the global COVID-19 epidemic crisis has just begun and there is a lot of uncertainty in the future, so it is impossible to respond to all situations with a single forecast. In addition, IDC also pointed out that the COVID-19 had a significant impact on China's technology supply chain, and it is unknown when it will recover.

In the report, IDC gave four predictions for the global semiconductor market's revenue this year, from a worst reduction of 12% or more to an optimal growth of 6% or more. IDC believes that among these four predictions,  the most likely occurrence is that revenue will decline by 6% year-on-year, with a probability of 54%. For the global semiconductor market, the impact will reach 25.8 billion US dollars.
