SK Group announces completion of acquisition of DuPont SiC wafer business

In September last year, SK Siltron, one of the world's top five wafer manufacturers, decided to acquire DuPont's wafer unit for $450 million. Today, SK Siltron said it had completed the acquisition on the 29th of last month.

SK Siltron expects the SiC wafer market to grow at a rate of more than 10% each year. Maximizing the synergy between DuPont's R&D and production capabilities and SK Siltron's major businesses will ensure new growth momentum for SK Siltron.

In fact, South Korea has a high dependence on Japan in terms of wafer materials. Once Japan makes new export restrictions, wafers are likely to be classified as sanctioned products. A spokesperson for SK Siltron said: "This acquisition aims to improve our global competitiveness while responding to the government's policy for material technology autonomy."
