Avnet recently announced the acquisition of Witekio, a privately held company with expertise in software and embedded systems to help developers overcome the technical challenges and complexities of the Internet of Things (IoT).

Witekio is a global company with approximately 120 employees in France, the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany. The Witekio team consists of business transformation consultants, user experience (UX) designers, system architects and software experts working with many Fortune 500 companies in the vertical market, including healthcare, automotive and navigation, handheld and mobile, industrial and energy, and smart connections.

Avnet said that by adding more features and expertise in embedded software, edge computing and security, especially hardware-to-cloud full-stack services, Avnet's end-to-end IoT strategy can be further promoted. The acquisition will also strengthen Avnet’s ability to shorten the time-to-market, cost and design complexity of its customers' IoT products.

Prior to this, Avnet acquired software company Softweb Solutions in December 2018, whose main business was to develop cloud-based software to connect, manage and analyze data. Witekio develops software for every layer from device to cloud. Its core technologies include hardware connectivity, device architecture and a portfolio that complements Softweb.

"Combining Witekio's embedded software-related expertise with Avnet's powerful technology ecosystem further strengthens our market-oriented total solution strategy," said Pete Bartolotta, Avnet Business Transformation President. “With Witekio's expertise, we can deliver hardware, software, cloud and middleware solutions faster and more complete.”

The acquisition is awaiting approval from the regulatory authorities and is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
