Vishay expands IHXL high-current inductors for automotive and renewable power systems

May 27, 2026 /SemiMedia/ — Vishay Intertechnology has expanded its IHXL series of radial through-hole inductors with four new high-current devices designed for automotive, industrial and renewable energy power systems.

The new lineup includes the automotive-grade IHXL1500VZ-3A and IHXL2000VZ-3A, along with the commercial IHXL1500VZ-31 and IHXL2000VZ-31. Vishay said the devices use a new iron alloy core material that reduces core losses by approximately 20% compared with previous-generation products while also lowering operating temperature rise.

The inductors support operating temperatures up to +155°C and are designed for applications including DC/DC converters, DC-Link filtering, high-current input filtering and power factor correction (PFC) chokes in electric power systems.

According to Vishay, the new devices also deliver higher inductance values up to 10 µH, improving impedance and ripple current filtering performance in switching power converters while reducing overall system cost versus earlier IHXL generations.

The series features a magnetically shielded construction using a pressed powdered iron body to contain stray magnetic flux and improve electromagnetic compatibility. Compared with conventional exposed-coil wirewound inductors, the design reduces magnetic coupling with surrounding components in dense power architectures.

Vishay added that the powdered iron construction lowers internal thermal resistance, helping reduce hotspots and improve thermal performance under active cooling conditions. A flat top surface also simplifies the mounting of external heatsinks.

The IHXL1500 series measures 38.1 mm × 38.1 mm × 21.89 mm, while the IHXL2000 series measures 50.8 mm × 50.8 mm × 21.7 mm. The devices support current ranges from 55 A to 209 A.

The soft saturation core material is designed to maintain stable inductance characteristics under varying load conditions, including high transient current spikes, helping avoid hard saturation effects in demanding power systems.

The inductors are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free and Vishay Green certified, with enhanced resistance to thermal shock, moisture and mechanical stress.

Availability
The IHXL1500VZ-3A, IHXL1500VZ-31, IHXL2000VZ-3A and IHXL2000VZ-31 are available now with lead times of approximately 14 weeks.
