According to reports, the Chinese anti-monopoly agency sent a number of investigation teams on May 31 to carry out raids and takes on-site forensics on offices of Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron in Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen respectively. "

At the end of December last year, China’s anti-trust agency interviewed Samsung for price and supply problem. At the time, DRAM was experiencing a record-breaking price hike in the seven quarters, which put tremendous pressure on end-users(manufacturers) and consumers.

Regarding the above, Xu Xinyu, the head of the Price Supervision and Supervision Bureau of the National Development and Reform Commission, said at the time: “We have noticed the soaring price and will pay more attention to the industry's future problems caused by 'price manipulation'.” He also revealed that there may be more companies coordinated its actions to try to drive up chip prices and maximize profitability. The "super cycle" of the memory chip industry caused by the supply shortage and the surge in demand has pushed up the price and profitability of chip makers such as Samsung and SK Hynix

For the three major storage companies in the “surge investigation”, some media commented that the move marked the official launch of investigations by the Chinese anti-trust agencies on the three companies.
