Omdia: Demand for MEMS speakers expected to rise significantly over next five years

Apr. 27, 2023 /SemiMedia/ -- Nora Houlihan, senior research analyst for MEMS and sensors at Omdia, mentioned in a recent interview with SEMI that the market for MEMS speakers will increase significantly.

“We can see a slowdown in the MEMS market, especially in smartphones and tablets, as they are closely tied to consumer demand. However, demand remains strong in industrial, automotive, healthcare, environmental and other non-consumer electronics segments ,” Houlihan said.

Houlihan said MEMS speakers are expected to grow significantly within five years as the technology becomes cheaper and their size, range and quality advantages solidify.

As MEMS become smaller and smaller, designers can add devices and functions without increasing the overall size of the product. This is especially important in products such as wearable devices.
