Intel will invest in semiconductor industry in Costa Rica over next two years, report says

August 31, 2023 /SemiMedia/ -- According to reports, the U.S. State Department stated that it will cooperate with the Costa Rican government through the "Chip and Science Act of 2022" to support the Costa Rican semiconductor industry. Among them, Intel will invest US$1.2 billion in Costa Rica over the next two years.

This investment is an important milestone for both Intel and Costa Rica. The announcement is strategic for the global technology landscape and underscores Intel's commitment to expanding its manufacturing capabilities and research efforts.

According to public information, Intel has manufacturing facilities in many countries and regions. It has fabs in the United States, Ireland, and Israel, and test and assembly plants in Costa Rica, China, Malaysia, and Vietnam. In addition, Intel will build two fabs in Germany and an assembly and test facility in Poland.
