Intel announces GPU engineering lab in Toronto

Intel recently announced plans to open a graphics processing unit engineering lab in North York, Toronto. The lab will serve as the R&D design center for its new GPU, which is scheduled to be launched in 2012, and plans to hire hundreds of engineers specializing in GPU technology research.

Intel's CPU products have a leading position in the world, but as the market demand for GPUs continues to grow, Intel has to accelerate the pace of GPU. Although Intel entered the GPU market later than other competitors, the company has been actively involved in artificial intelligence technology for some time. For example, earlier this year, Intel partnered with Rubikloud in Toronto to provide AI solutions for retailers.

Intel chose Toronto because of the city's booming technology landscape, and it is also one of the most active places for graphics enthusiasts, which helps Intel find top engineering talent. According to reports, AMD and Nvidia also expanded their business in the city.
