According to Reuters, citing official Texas documents, Samsung Electronics is considering locating its $17 billion wafer plant in Austin. Samsung said the new plant will create 1,800 jobs.

The report pointed out that this official document revealed that Samsung plans to build a new 7 million square foot factory on the 640 acres it already owns to manufacture logic devices. This means that the main production direction of the new plant is chips with the smallest size and the fastest calculation speed.

According to the document, Samsung's fab in Austin is preparing to break ground in the second quarter of this year and plans to start operations in the third quarter of 2023.
