According to reports, SK Hynix today announced its investment in the startup Gauss Labs, which aims to lead the innovation of semiconductor manufacturing through industrial artificial intelligence (AI) solutions.

The report pointed out that after Gauss Labs established its headquarters in Silicon Valley, USA last month, it will set up an office in South Korea later in September.

SK Group has been promoting various artificial intelligence businesses. Chey Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group, once emphasized that the group should use innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital transformation to create social value, expand the market, and seek happiness for customers.

Gauss Labs is the first independent company specializing in artificial intelligence in the SK Group. Kim Young-han, a world-renowned data scientist, tenured professor at the University of California, San Diego, and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) researcher, will serve as the CEO of Gauss Labs. Kim Young-han recently worked as a data researcher at SK Hynix. With his technical expertise and global network, he is considered the best candidate to lead the development of Gauss Labs.

The report pointed out that the initial goal of Gauss Labs was to completely change the semiconductor manufacturing industry through innovative artificial intelligence technology, using large amounts of data generated at SK Hynix's production site. Through these technologies, SK Hynix plans to make its entire production operations, including process control, output forecasting, equipment maintenance, defect detection and failure prevention, more efficient and intelligent.
