According to reports, although Sony has rushed to produce image sensors for smartphones, the company still faces a shortage of supply due to rising demand.

The report said that although Sony has tripled its capital expenditures this year, invested 280 billion yen and started building a new plant in Nagasaki, Japan, it is still not enough to meet customer demand. Therefore, Sony will continue to rush production during the Christmas holiday to meet customer demand.

Now more and more smartphone manufacturers are launching three-lens phones. In addition to Samsung and Huawei, Apple has also equipped three cameras on this year's iPhone 11 Pro. Semiconductor is Sony's most profitable business right now. The company expects to reinvest all profits from selling chips into the semiconductor business, hoping to increase the number of image sensors produced per month from the current 109,000 to 138,000 pieces.

The new office is scheduled to be established on April 1, 2020 as the first CMOS image sensor design and development base in the Kansai region of Japan, aiming to strengthen CMOS image sensor design and development capabilities for the mobile device and IoT markets, and to expand the product lineup.
