Today, Samsung released its latest mobile processor, the Exynos 980, which integrates a 5G baseband.

Based on advanced 8nm FinFET process technology, Exynos 980 is Samsung's first artificial intelligence (AI) mobile processor with integrated 5G baseband. Compared to common 5G baseband chips, the Exynos 980 not only helps reduce power consumption, but also improves space utilization inside the device.

The Exynos 980 supports 2G to 5G multimode compatibility, providing Gigabit downlink speed in 4G LTE and up to 2.55Gbps in 5G networks in the sub-6GHz band. The chip's integrated 5G baseband also supports E-UTRA-NRDual Connectivity (EN-DC), which combines 2CC LTE and 5G connectivity to maximize mobile download speeds up to 3.55Gbps.

In addition, the Exynos 980 supports the Wi-Fi 6 standard IEEE 802.11ax, which provides faster speed and greater stability support for online gaming and smooth high-resolution video streaming.

The Exynos 980 features two of the latest high-performance Cortex-A77 CPU cores and four high-efficiency Cortex-A55 cores, equipped with the top-of-the-line Mali-G76 GPU. The performance of the internally integrated Neuroprocessing Unit (NPU) is 2.7 times higher than the previous generation, providing powerful artificial intelligence processing capabilities.

In addition to support for 5G networks, the Exynos 980 also supports resolutions of up to 108 megapixels of CMOS. The advanced Image Signal Processor (ISP) supports up to five separate sensors and is capable of processing three simultaneously for a richer multi-camera experience. In addition, AI-capable cameras can detect and understand scenes or objects, and based on these scenes or objects, the camera will make the best adjustments to its settings.

According to Samsung, the Exynos 980 has begun sampling and is expected to begin mass production by the end of this year.
