Recently, Samsung released two new image sensors, ISOCELL Bright GW1 and GM2, both of which use 0.8μm unit pixel size with resolutions of 64 million pixels and 48 million pixels respectively.

GW1 combines four pixels into one pixel, resulting in a 16 megapixel image, the same as a 48 megapixel sensor that generates a 12 megapixel photo by default. The GW1 also supports real-time HDR (High Dynamic Range), which enables real-time high dynamic range of up to 100dB, allowing for richer colors in backlighting. In addition, these two new sensors support DCG (double conversion gain) and PD focus, GW1 supports FHD level 480 frames per second, GM2 supports 240 frames per second slow motion video recording.

According to Samsung's forecast, its 64-megapixel CMOS will be put into mass production in the second half of this year. Industry insiders said that Sony is expected to follow up with 64-megapixel of CMOS very soon.
