Vishay introduces new optocoupler

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has expanded its optoelectronic portfolio with two new series of optical thyristor output optocouplers in the compact DIP-6 and SMD-6 packages. The VOT8025A and VOT8125A have an off-state voltage of up to 800 V and a dV/dt of 1000 V/μs. These devices offer high stability and noise isolation for home appliances and industrial equipment.

These optocoupler devices isolate 120 VAC, 240 VAC, and 380 VAC line low voltage logic to control resistive, inductive, and capacitive loads, including motors, solenoids, high current thyristors, or TRIACs and relays. In addition, these devices consist of GaAs infrared LEDs that can be optically coupled to a zero-crossing TRIAC (VOT8025A Series) to reduce EMI, eliminating the need for an external buffer network, or a random phase TRIAC (VOT8125A Series) for phase independent switching, thereby reducing design costs and save PCB space.

The high off-state voltages of the VOT8025A and VOT8125A increase the safety margin for single-phase applications while maintaining sufficient voltage margin for three-phase applications. For added safety, the two optocouplers are resistant to a minimum of 5000 VRMS isolation and a high isolation distance at the output for a wider pad size gap.

The new optocoupler is RoHS compliant. Typical applications include solid state relay power TRIAC drives, three phase air conditioners, boilers, thermostats, industrial motor control and power line switches, as well as motor, luminaire and valve control in home appliances.

Currently, the VOT8025A and VOT8125A are in volume production with a lead time of 6 weeks. For more information on this range of products, please refer to Vishay's website: http://www.vishay.com
