ADI introduces an analog-to-digital converter that simplifies PLC module development

Analog Devices has introduced two multichannel +/-10V and 0-20mA precision analog-to-digital converters that better support the implementation of programmable logic controller (PLC) and distributed control system (DCS) modules.

The AD4111 and AD4112 analog-to-digital converters integrate ADI's iPassives® integrated precision passive technology with precision-matched current sense resistors and resistor dividers. Channel-to-channel simplifies calibration and supports up to eight single-ended voltage inputs and four current inputs, making this new product ideal for reconfigurable platform solutions while reducing PLC and DCS modules Size, complexity and cost.

The AD4111 and AD4112 analog-to-digital converters accept a nominal input voltage range of +/-10V while providing an input voltage range of +/-20V while meeting performance specifications, adding an over-range margin to the nominal +/-10V. Both devices accept currents from -0.5 to 24 mA while meeting performance specifications. This enables reliable measurements close to 0 mA and provides over-range margins in excess of 20 mA. The voltage pins of these devices provide an absolute maximum rating of +/-50V and the current pins provide an absolute maximum rating of +/-50mA. With a single +5V or +3.3V supply and +/-10V input voltage, the AD4111 uniquely supports off-line detection, which can be detected when an external sensor or source is disconnected from the system input.
