Analog Devices introduces automatic calibration energy metering IC

July 25, 2018

Analog Devices has introduced an energy metering IC that can automatically calibrates in single-phase power measurement applications.

The new ADE9153A uses mSure® technology to automatically calibrate the metering system, dramatically reducing the time, labor and equipment costs required for calibration. The ADE9153A is the only energy metering IC on the market with auto-calibration capabilities that enables designers of smart lighting, data centers, electric vehicle charging, and industrial applications to easily integrate billing-level precision energy metering into their products. Calibration with traditional energy metering ICs requires expensive external reference and current sources, while the ADE9153A uses mSure technology to calibrate the system based on direct measurements of the metering system's energy metering signal path. If the ADE9153A is used in the engineering of the product, it can be automatically calibrated during production without the need to build, maintain and deploy a precision calibration rack on the production floor.

The ADE9153A supports active energy standards including IEC 62053-21, IEC 62053-22, EN50470-3, OIML R46 and ANSI C12.20. It also supports reactive energy standards IEC 62053-23 and IEC 62053-24. The ADE9153A features power quality measurements such as zero-crossing detection, line cycle calculations, angle measurements, dips and swells, peak and overcurrent detection, and power factor measurements.

ADE9153A Features:

- Fast automatic calibration based on direct measurement of the measurement signal path

- No external reference current and voltage source required

- Supports 0.5 and 1 level energy metering accuracy

- 3 high performance ADCs with SNR of 88 dB and a high gain current channel

- High-order metrology characteristics: Watt, VAR, VA, Zx, sudden drop, sudden rise, peak, over current, etc.

The ADE9153A is currently available for sale at an open price of $2.97 (based on a 1000-piece price). For more information on this product, please refer to the ADI website: http://www.analog.com
