April 17, 2026 /SemiMedia/ — Microchip Technology Inc. has introduced a new digital signal controller in its dsPIC33A family, targeting growing demand for more efficient power conversion, real-time control and system security in AI servers, data centres, automotive and industrial equipment.

The new dsPIC33AK256MPS306 devices are designed for power conversion, motor control and sensing applications, combining high integration with system-level simplification to reduce component count and shorten development cycles. The platform also includes support for post-quantum cryptography for emerging security requirements in connected systems.

The device is built around a 200 MHz 32-bit core with a floating-point unit and integrates high-resolution PWM, fast ADCs, comparators and DACs. These features are intended to support tight control loops in high-speed power designs.

Microchip said the devices are optimised for next-generation power systems using silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) switches, which are increasingly used in AI server power supplies and high-frequency DC/DC converters.

Security functions include secure boot, secure firmware updates and secure debug, along with support for post-quantum cryptographic algorithms aligned with CNSA 2.0 recommendations. The features are aimed at data centre and Open Compute Project (OCP) power architectures.

For connectivity, the DSCs support I3C along with CAN FD, LIN, SPI, I2C and SENT interfaces, enabling use in low-latency telemetry and industrial control systems.

In motor control applications, the architecture supports fast trigonometric processing and field-oriented control algorithms, with interfaces for encoder-based feedback systems used in precision motion control.

The devices also integrate touch control and high-speed ADC functions to support sensing and human-machine interface designs while reducing external components.

The dsPIC33AK256MPS306 family is designed for automotive and industrial safety standards and supports operation up to 150°C. for more information, please visit https://www.microchip.com/en-us/product/dspic33ak256mps306.
