March 25, 2026 /SemiMedia/ — Elmos Semiconductor is exploring a possible sale, according to people familiar with the matter, as interest grows in automotive chip assets.
The German company has hired an adviser and has started early talks with potential buyers, including global semiconductor firms, the sources said. No deal is certain and the company could still decide not to proceed.
Elmos focuses on chips used in vehicle systems such as lighting, safety and power control. As demand for automotive semiconductors rises, companies with established positions in these areas are drawing attention from larger players.
Some industry observers see companies like Infineon and Qualcomm as possible buyers, as both are expanding their automotive chip businesses. A deal, however, could face close review from German regulators.
The company’s ownership structure may also affect any transaction. Founder-related entities hold a large stake, giving insiders strong influence over key decisions.
Elmos sold its Dortmund wafer fab in late 2024 and shifted to a design-focused model, outsourcing production. This move may make it easier to structure a deal.
In financial terms, Elmos reported record revenue of about 582 million euros in 2025, while profit declined. The company expects sales to grow further in 2026, with margins improving.
The discussions come as deal activity in the semiconductor sector picks up, especially in automotive and industrial chips, where scale and product range are becoming more important.
