Murata considers raising premium MLCC prices in response to AI demand surge

February 23, 2026 /SemiMedia/ — Murata Manufacturing is considering increasing the prices of its premium multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) due to a surge in demand driven by AI infrastructure investments. The company is currently analyzing the real demand from AI technologies and expects to make a clearer decision by the fourth quarter of this year, with a final decision expected by March 2027.

Murata is the world's largest supplier of MLCCs, essential components for AI servers. As cloud companies invest heavily in AI infrastructure, Murata has seen rising demand for its premium products, causing supply shortages across the technology supply chain.

Nakajima mentioned that AI server customers are less sensitive to price and are more focused on supply stability. As a result, older products face little pressure for price cuts. However, he also warned that competitors may shift their focus to the AI server market, sacrificing demand from other sectors, which could further increase dependence on Murata’s products.

Murata’s market share in the global MLCC market exceeds 40%, with an even higher share in the AI server sector. The company expects continued high demand for its MLCCs as AI server requirements grow.
