December 23, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Global DRAM market dynamics continued to evolve in the third quarter as demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) accelerated, reshaping competitive positions among leading suppliers, according to Counterpoint’s latest memory market tracking.
HBM demand drives shifts among leading DRAM suppliers
SK hynix remained the largest DRAM supplier overall, though its market share edged lower from the previous quarter. Samsung Electronics, by contrast, recorded a modest gain, supported by stronger shipments of advanced memory products, narrowing the gap between the top two players.
Advanced memory reshapes competitive dynamics in HBM
Changes were more pronounced in the HBM segment. While SK hynix retained its leading position, its share declined quarter-on-quarter. Samsung, benefiting from robust demand for its HBM3E products, increased its share significantly and moved ahead of Micron to become the second-largest HBM supplier during the quarter.
In the broader DRAM market, higher shipment volumes and rising prices drove a sharp quarter-on-quarter increase in total market value. At the same time, supply tightened as major manufacturers reduced output of conventional DRAM while reallocating capacity toward advanced products.
Supply tightens as manufacturers rebalance DRAM production
This shift created room for suppliers focused on traditional DRAM. Nanya Technology saw a slight improvement in market share, reflecting resilient demand for mature-node memory used in specific applications.
Despite the dominance of SK hynix, Samsung and Micron, industry supply remains strained as demand growth continues to outpace capacity expansion. The divergence between advanced and conventional DRAM demand is increasing pressure on global manufacturing capacity, underscoring the need for further investment across the memory supply chain.
