January 9, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — NXP Semiconductors has announced the acquisition of Austrian automotive software developer TTTech Auto for $625 million in cash, marking a significant move to strengthen its position in the software-defined vehicle (SDV) space.

Upon completion of the transaction, TTTech Auto’s management team and approximately 1,100 engineers will join NXP’s automotive division. The deal is subject to regulatory approval.

TTTech Auto is known for its deterministic operating systems and time-triggered Ethernet technologies, which align closely with NXP's focus on central and domain controller chips. These technologies have also established TTTech Auto as a trusted partner for leading automotive manufacturers.

Market research firm S&P predicts that by 2027, the SDV market will account for 45% of global vehicle production, with a compound annual growth rate of 48% between 2024 and 2027. This shift underscores the industry's move toward fundamentally new vehicle architectures.

In March 2023, NXP launched its CoreRide platform to address the challenges of transitioning to SDVs, with TTTech Auto as a key partner responsible for porting software to NXP's S32 chips. CoreRide integrates S32 vehicle computing, networking, and system power management. With this acquisition, NXP will enhance its technology stack by adding TTTech Auto's MotionWise middleware, communication, and safety solutions.
