December 19, 2022

Dec. 19, 2022 /SemiMedia/ -- According to Japannews, Renesas Electronics' Beijing fab has announced a shutdown due to employees being infected with Covid-19 Omicron.

Renesas Electronics stated that the reason for the closure is to ensure stable operations and protect the safety of employees. Due to the spread of infection, the Beijing fab has been short of manpower and it is difficult to maintain the production line.

Renesas said it will use existing inventory to make up for lost production, and the shutdown has limited impact on product supply. The downtime is expected to be several days and will be adjusted according to the infection situation.

According to public information, Renesas Electronics’ Beijing fab has about 1,000 employees and mainly produces semiconductors for household appliances, industrial machines, industrial equipment and vehicles.
