SIA: Strengthening ban on Huawei will cause huge damage to the US semiconductor industry

After the US Department of Commerce announced further tightening of restrictions on the use of US technology and software by Huawei and its affiliates, John Neuffer, Chairman and CEO of the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) issued a statement on August 18 to respond to the restrictions.

John Neuffer stated in the statement that they are still reviwing the rule. However, extensive restrictions on commercial chip sales will cause major damage to the US semiconductor industry.

At the same time, John Neuffer expressed concern about the sudden change in the attitude of the U.S. government. The US government’s previous ban on Huawei is aimed at achieving US national security goals while reducing harm to US companies.

SIA reiterated in its statement that the sale of insensitive semiconductor products to China will promote semiconductor research and innovation in the United States, which is also vital to the stability of the US economy and national security.
