Vishay can’t solve the MLCC shortage

March 12, 2018

Few days ago, Vishay announced that they will supply a large number of MLCC to the market in response to the recent EOL and PCN announcements from some MLCC makers. Vishay also announced delivery time for many MLCC products that are currently out of stock in the global market. The lead time for mass production orders is from 12 to 14 weeks. The specifications involved include large-size NPOs and X7R…etc.

However, according to reports from supply chain, distributors and the EMS factory verified that Vishay’s production increase was for automotive MLCCs. It was also reported that Vishay increased production in response to customer requests, and its production capacity has been reserved.

Although Vishay is a discrete semiconductor and passive component maker, it manufactures MLCCs, resistors, inductors, MOSFETs, and other types of components. The market share of its resistors is about 2%, and the market share of inductors is about 2.24%. MLCC is not in the top 10 in the world.

The insider pointed out that Vishay's product quality is not bad, but the small output, high price and long delivery period, their recent action is not really helpful for the shortage status.
