South Korea top five automakers' April sales drop 4.9% year-on-year due to chip shortages

According to the April results released by five Korean automakers on May 3, the global sales of Korean cars was only 627,491 units, down 4.9% from the same period last year due to chip shortages.

The five automakers Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors, Ssangyong Motors, Renault Korea and GM Korea sold 119,628 vehicles in total, down 11.8% year-on-year. Only Ssangyong Electric achieved growth. Total overseas sales were 507,863 units, down 3.2% year-on-year. Renault Korea and SsangYong surged 363.9% and 210.5%, respectively.
