December 26, 2023 /SemiMedia/ -- According to reports, Sony is focusing on increasing production capacity and will transfer engineers from other factories to Nagasaki starting in the spring of 2024 to increase production.

The report pointed out that Sony’s purpose of expanding Nagasaki production capacity is to ensure that it can cope with the long-term sales growth of Chinese smartphone manufacturers including Xiaomi and OPPO. Last year, Sony launched Lytia brand image sensors for the Chinese market and designated Nagasaki as its supply center.

In addition, Sony also plans to build a new image sensor factory in Kumamoto Prefecture.
