April 10, 2024 /SemiMedia/ -- According to reports, Shin-Etsu Chemical plans to invest 83 billion yen (approximately US$547 million) to build a new factory in Isesaki City, Gunma Prefecture, north of Tokyo, Japan. The factory covers an area of approximately 150,000 square meters and will be completed in 2026. It mainly produces photoresists and other materials used in semiconductor photolithography processes.

The report pointed out that Shin-Etsu Chemical occupies about 20% of the global photoresist market, especially in cutting-edge products, occupying at least 40% of the market share. The company currently produces photoresist materials in Taiwan region and Niigata Prefecture, Japan, and has expanded production capacity in the two places in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

The new Gunma factory will become Shin-Etsu's strategic center for semiconductor materials, including exports to South Korea, the United States and other regions. The company also plans to eventually conduct research and development there.
