Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron may be punished by Chinese antitrust for $2.5 billion

Recently, the Anti-Monopoly Bureau of the State Administration of Market Supervision of China stated that it has conducted anti-monopoly investigations against Samsung, Hynix and Micron. In the worst case, analysts said that if they were found to be manipulating prices, each of the three chipmakers could be fined more than $2.5 billion by Beijing.

It is also reported that if the three manufacturers are determined to have a price monopoly and are punished according to the sales in China in 2017, the fine will be between 440 million and 4.4 billion, and If the penalty is for 2016-2017 sales, the fine will be between $800 million and $8 billion.

Wu Zhenguo, director of the Anti-monopoly of the State Administration of Markets Supervision of China, said at a press conference recently that the General Administration of Market Supervision has made important progress in anti-monopoly investigations against Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron, the investigation work and treatment plan will be further carried out in accordance with the law to maintain fair competition in the market and protect the interests of consumers.
