According to Nikkei, Panasonic will increase its production of electronic components used in servers and communication base stations in response to the increased demand brought about by 5G infrastructure.

According to the report, Panasonic will begin production of capacitor materials at its factory in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, and plans to expand capacitor production capacity by 20% in 2021. In addition, it will increase production of electronic materials used in base station antennas in China by 2021.

The report pointed out that the electronic products Panasonic will increase production are conductive polymer aluminum electrolytic capacitors. The company will introduce production equipment at the Kumamoto plant to produce materials such as polymers, and then assemble it at the plant in Batam, Indonesia. In addition, the Kumamoto Plant will also start production of capacitors used in automotive equipment.

Details such as output and investment amount have not been announced.
