Jan. 2, 2023 /SemiMedia/ -- Nordic Semiconductor recently announced that it has become an official member of the DECT Forum, the organization responsible for promoting the development of industry standards for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) and promoting the industry's adoption of the latest standard, DECT New Radio (NR)+.

DECT NR+ is the world's first non-cellular 5G wireless standard designed to support massive IoT networks with densities of up to one million devices per square kilometer. Nordic has been a major contributor to the development of the DECT NR+ standard since the publication of the initial specification in July 2020.

As part of the membership, Kristian Sæther, Director of Cellular IoT and NR+ Products at Nordic Semiconductor, will join the DECT Forum Board of Directors. Nordic has also joined the DECT Forum Marketing Working Group and the DECT NR+ Working Group, and plans to join other major NR+ working groups.

“Nordic Semiconductor’s belief is to bring the Internet of Things to the widest possible audience, and our strategy is to support IoT technologies that are suitable for the widest range of applications, based on open standards, and built to strict technical specifications. DECT NR+ technology fits perfectly into these requirements,” says Sæther.

"We joined the DECT Forum because of its excellent track record of building DECT businesses in the market. Now, we join forces to achieve the same for DECT NR+," he added.
