Murata has suspended 3 factories successively in April due to the pandemic

According to previous reports, in the past month, Murata has suspended the operations of its factories three times. The first was the Fukui factory, which announced a three-day shutdown on April 5, the second was the Izumo factory, which ceased operation from April 14 to 16, and the last was the Toyama factory, which announced its suspension of operations for three days on April 25.

Murata's Toyama factory mainly produces piezoelectric products and sensors for smartphones.  There are media reports from Taiwan that although the plant has resumed work on the 27th and emphasized that it will not affect the supply, customers worry that the shutdown without warning will disrupt supply stability. Therefore, some customers intend to transfer orders to manufacturers such as Yageo and Walsin.

Industry sources pointed out that Murata is the global leader in passive components, with a market share of over 30%. If the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread in Japan, Murata's factories may face the risk of being closed again, which will inevitably affect the supply of passive components.
