Lead time of MOSFETs may be extended due to nationwide lockdown in Malaysia

According to reports, Malaysia announced that the nationwide lockdown that was originally scheduled to expire on June 28 will be extended. Affected by the extension of the lockdown, the lead time of MOSFETs from some manufacturers may continue to be extended, and prices may rise again.

The report pointed out that a number of semiconductor IDM companies such as Infineon, ON Semiconductor, STMicroelectronics and NXP have factories in Malaysia, and business includes wafer manufacturing and packaging and testing for power semiconductors, rectifiers, logic ICs and other products.

As the current capacity of these IDM companies in Malaysia is difficult to restore to the pre-lockdown level, the supply of MOSFETs that are already in short supply will be even worse. The report said that due to continued strong demand, in addition to the possibility of further extension of the lead time, the price may also rise again.

According to the supply chain, the current lead time of MOSFETs is at least 30 weeks, while the lead time of some of IDM's medium and low voltage MOSFETs has reached 40 weeks.

Industry insiders believe that the continued tight supply of these IDM companies and the shift of capacity to the mid-to-high-end market have caused orders for consumer products to be substantially transferred to Chinese MOSFET suppliers.
