Insider: Samsung plans to cut memory prices in second half of 2022

According to supply chain insiders, Samsung Electronics is considering lowering the price of its memory chips in the second half of 2022 to further expand its market share.

If Samsung cuts prices, it could lead to a price war in the second half of the year, as other suppliers will follow suit, the sources said.

The source pointed out that sales of SSDs and other storage devices were not as expected during China's 618 online shopping day, which will drive suppliers to accelerate inventory adjustments.

The source also pointed out that almost all types of memory prices will drop by more than 10% sequentially in the third quarter of 2022. In the spot market, prices have been falling rapidly since the second quarter.

According to an earlier report, Micron Technology said that some enterprise OEM customers intend to reduce their memory and storage inventory due to weak end demand in the consumer market as well as in the data center segment.
