August 8, 2024 /SemiMedia/ -- Semiconductor silicon wafer manufacturer GlobalWafers recently announced that its Malaysian subsidiary MEMC Electronic Materials Sendirian Berhad has acquired land and buildings in Malaysia for RM146 million, mainly in preparation for future local operations.

GlobalWafers said that in response to operational needs, the acquisition involves approximately 60,000 square meters of land and buildings, located close to its subsidiary's current Kuala Lumpur factory, and is also close to the airport and port, with convenient transportation.

GlobalWafers did not announce any expansion plans after acquiring the land, but stressed that it is preparing and will evaluate the relevant usage once customer demand increases. In addition, this investment will support the expansion plans of some regional customers and enable the company to benefit from the cooperation space in the semiconductor market with major potential customers in the future.
