GlobalFoundries announced that it has signed a memorandum of cooperation with GlobalWafers, which indicates that GlobalWafers will supply 12-inch SOI (Silicon on Insulator) wafers to GlobalFoundries in the long term.

According to reports, GlobalWafers has been supplying 8-inch SOI wafers to GlobalFoundries for a long time. GlobalFoundries plans to use the 12-inch wafer supply specified in this agreement to meet the industry's growing demand for RF SOI technology. These technologies are optimized to provide low-power, high-performance, and easy-to-integrate solutions for current and next-generation mobile devices and 5G applications.

Bami Bastani, senior vice president of mobile and wireless infrastructure at GlobalFoundries, said: "Mobile, wireless and 5G bring huge business opportunities to GlobalFoundries. Currently, more than 85% of smart phones on the market use our company's RF technology. We are very pleased to work with GlobalWafers and look forward to jointly developing the new 12-inch SOI wafer supply chain, which will be integrated into the GlobalFoundries process to further meet the growing demand for RF SOI technology solutions. "

Tom Weber, Senior Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer of GlobalFoundries, said: "Given our market positioning, we and our customers need to establish a diverse 12-inch SOI wafer supply chain, which is in the best interests of us and our customers. GlobalWafers is the best partner to achieve this. "
